SHEEP SALES AND FARM TOURS IN THE ENGLISH LAKE DISTRICT | UK & EUROPE
Herdwick sheep are native to the Lake District in Cumbria. The name "Herdwick" is derived from the Old Norse herdvyck, meaning sheep pasture. Herdwicks are prized for their endurance and robustness, making them ideally suited to the rough hillside pasture of the Lakes. Their tolerance of the cold and general hardiness also makes them ideal grazers for nature reserves.
Although not as fine as other wool, Herdwick Wool has unique durability which makes it ideal for hard wearing clothing such as socks, hats and gloves. You can buy many Herdwick wool clothes and garments at Crookabeck Farm Shop which is based close to us in Patterdale.
Dowthwaite Head Farm breeds and sells a wide variety of sheep including Herdwicks. Please contact us if you are interested in buying Herdwick Sheep or any other breeds of sheep, as we can acquire any rare breed of sheep. Please click here to see photos of some Herdwick Sheep we have recently sold.
